The Agritur
Bella di Bosco
is located in Val di Non in the municipality of Smarano. It resides
on the plateau of the Predaia, one of the most beautiful places in
the valley. Smarano has an altitude of 1000 meters on level land and
in a sunny location. From here, you can enjoy a panoramic view of
the beautiful Dolomites of Brenta and their rocky mountain peaks.
The Dolomites of Brenta are part of the Adamello-Brenta
Natural Park (www.pnab.it). This
is the home of various wild species, including the tawny bear.
Towards the north east, behind Smarano rises mount Roen at an
altitude of 2116 meters from the slopes of the Val di Non towards
the Valle dell’Adige. This is an immense mountain known for its
various atmospheres and biodiversities where one can take short
walks or go hiking for the day. Towards the summit there are two
barns surrounded by a great pasture, and if one looks beyond a
golden eagle might be seen flying over head.
Ten minutes by car to the east of Smarano is Predaia, which
is a unique area with meadows rich in colorful flowers and insects.
This is a sign of little exploitation with its scarcity of water and
its distance from the country.
Besides the landscaped and naturalistic wealth, the Val di Non or
Anaunia boasts a great number of castles. Some castles are in ruin
from many years ago, but others are still inhabited by the
descendants of powerful noble families. Fortunately, one of the
larger and characteristic castles, Castel Thun, has been
maintained in good condition. It is the property of the
Independent Province of Trento, and it has been undergoing
renovations over recent years.

Another jewel located close to Smarano in Sanzeno is the
Sanctuary of Saint Romedio, which is known in Austria and
Germany for the saint’s Austrian origin. The sanctuary is situated
on a high cliff. It is made up of several small chapels constructed
throughout history, and the most ancient of which dates back to the
XI century. A very unusual path embedded in the rocks can be taken
to the Sanctuary.

The legend of Saint Romedio, a nobleman of the Austrian Thaur
family, tells of a man who left all of his riches to live as a
recluse on a cliff where today the sanctuary rises. One day, Romedio
decided to visit Bishop Vigilio in Trento, but at the time, he was
very old. Romedio decided to travel on horseback rather than
walking. Unfortunately on his way to Trento, he encountered a bear
that killed his horse. Romedio’s faith in God made the bear docile,
and then he was able to ride on the bear's back to Trento.
Other places to visit include the historical center of Trento,
the Dome of Saint Vigilio, the Castle of Buonconsiglio, the Albere
Palace, the Museum Tridentino of Natural Sciences,The MART at
Rovereto, and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of
Trento and Bozen.
A visit to the Archaeological Museum in Bozen, South Tyrol,
is worthwhile, where the celebrated man or mummy who came from the
ice of Similaun (www.iceman.it)
can be viewed. This man is a perfectly conserved specimen as he was
recovered with all of his equipment on the glacier of val the
Senales in 1991. After numerous examinations, it has been determined
that the man who came from the ice, or more affectionately known as
“Ötzi”, lived 5000 years ago and died on those icy mountains
assassinated by an arrow.
Another city of interest, is Meran located also in South
Tyrol, famous for its spas and Mediterranean climate due to its
location.
